why Cavan?
In the words of one of our patrons:
"There are many things that one could say about Cavan and why you should visit the Irish midlands, but in a few words I would have to say it is gorgeous, with an outstanding character. It has all that you need plus the peace. I hope to visit many more times."

Cloverhill Gate Lodge
Where we came from...
Cloverhill Gate Lodge is a newly refurbished, three bedroom cottage. It nestles beneath the archway entrance to the Cloverhill Estate; It is set in woodland on the edge of the Estate, offering excellent privacy and yet is near the main Dublin Road and many other major attractions. In the old-world of Cloverhill one can escape the hustle and bustle of modern life and yet be convenient to shops, towns churches, motorways, world heritage sites, sports facilities etc,
The History of Cloverhill Gate Lodge
The life of the Gate Lodge was closely linked to the life of the “Big House”. The first part of Cloverhill House was built in 1728. The foundation stone for the second part was laid in 1799 and building was completed in 1803. It was commissioned by Mr James Sanderson who employed the well –known architect Mr Francis Johnston. Mr Johnston was paid £22.15s for his drawings and design.

The archway entrance was built in 1840. The Gate Lodge was built in the later1830’s and first appeared in Ordnance Survey Maps of the 1840’s.
The Church which stands nearby was constructed by Miss Mary Jane Sanderson, in memory of her father, James Sanderson. It was constructed in 1860 as a chapel of ease for Annagh parish, and remained a private church until quite recently.
